No Fun in the Sandbox These Days

Sandbox operating terribly

In addition to the incredibly misguided "peak usage" garbage they are now turning the webserver off. I can still resolve and ping the IP address of their server before peak hours start but no pages load. I would appreciate someone pointing me to a better fantasy league.

Sandbox's Peak Usage Program

Right before the fantasy football season, Sandbox announced that it was going to institute a "Peak Usage Program" which limited access to it's "Full Contact" Fantasy Football during peak use hours (mornings and evenings). Only those who payed a small monthly fee (something less than $5) were allowed access to their teams during these hours. Reaction on the well-used Sandbox Forum was overwhelmingly negative. Longtime Sandbox members felt betrayed by what they believed to be a profit motive, and many, including myself, chose not to use Sandbox for fantasy football this year.

Users were angry that Sandbox made the announcement so close to the Fantasy Football season. I imagine that they are even more angry to find out that Sandbox, in an attempt to avoid bankruptcy, (1) duped members out of a couple months' worth of Peak Usage access when the fantasy football season on Sandbox was doomed, and (2) sold every user's email address to an internet marketing group (they emailed all of us an announcement.

I understand that Sandbox was doing everything it could to stay afloat, but unfortunately it alienated it's longtime users in the process. The quality of Sandbox's product has decreased exponentially in the last year and a half, and the Peak Usage Program was the straw that broke the camel's back for a lot of folks. It looks to be a clean break between Sandbox and its users-- Sandbox can no longer operate profitably, and subscribers no longer care.
