Tivo just raised $25million by selling 6.9+million shares in an equity sale at $3.59 per share. Two large venture firms bought the entire offering. Capital is not a near term problem now. In this stock market environment they must be doing something right or they couldn't get this amount of money from a VC.

Actually, Microsoft is a direct competitor with Tivo. They own Ultimate TV and are coming out with a new version of PVR formerly titled the "Homestation".
