I can't speak for the star tribune, but the MPR News Web site had no problem keeping up with the story as it unfolded. And, in fact, had the particulars about the plane crash, the second update with reports of Wellstone on the plane, and finally the confirmation of his death, all within seconds of the time the news first broke.

Within minutes we had information on the type of plane involved, live audio coverage, reaction from various Minnesotans.

Our online traffic was equal to that of Sept. 11.

It's unfortunate that a couple of Web sites were used to paint a broad brush of "disappointment" with online's ability to cover breaking news. Online journalism served its audience quite well.

Update your bookmarks, Peter.
