Good observation, Larry!

Larry,
Good observation. Let me clarify how we deal with conflicts of interest with the SND.ies.
For montly judging (which is done every month online) judges do NOT assigned entries that they are involved with in any way, either by professional organization or by knowing the entrant.
During the annual judging anyone with an affiliation to the entry was not in the room when the entry was discussed. (We had a special room with drinks and snacks where they went!)
My thoughts about why MSNBC.com and sun-sentinel.com won a number of awards is that:
1.) They both are doing great work.
2.) They were aware that the competition existed right from the start (in this case) because people who worked for their organizations were judges.
Our hope with the SND.ies (now in the 11th month) is to get the word out to more media organizations and encourage them to enter. For $15, anyone can enter and not only compete, but also receive the judges' comments on their work. A pretty good deal, we think!
If you want to know more, you can visit SND's Web site, www.snd.org
Thanks for the feedback!
Laura

Amnong the SND.ies judges are Stephen Cvengros: general manager, MSN Channels and Don Wittekind: graphics director at the Sun-Sentinel, Fort Lauderdale, FL
MSNBC and the Sun-Sentinel take baskets of SND.ies home and judges. Hmmmmmm.
