Person of the Year: AltaVista vs. Time

If popular interest (as gauged by AltaVista queries) were used as guidelines, Rudy Giuliani wouldn't be Time's person of the year. According to AltaVista spokesperson Krista Thomas, the keyword "Giuliani" was not queried in the period 9/11 - 12/11, 2001. Not once! AltaVista processes ~50 million searches per day.

#1 "person" query: Nostradamus.

Is anyone other than me suspicious about how none of those 'most popular' search terms was X-rated? Sense that it was work of a press relations department rather than an objective ranking of what were actually the 'most popular' search terms? If not, have I got a bridge to sell you!
