CRMA Announces National City And Regional Magazine Awards Finalists

Texas Monthly leads the list with 16 nominations

Magazine professionals from around the country chose 66 finalists from more than 850 entries in the 21st Annual National City and Regional Magazine Association’s annual awards contest.

Seventy-three magazines of varying circulation competed for these coveted awards in 22 editorial and design categories. The gold, silver and bronze winners will be announced at the CRMA 30th Annual Conference June 17-19, 2006 in Boston at the Marriott Copley Place Hotel.

This year’s editorial nominees covered such topics as a power struggle that kept AIDS drugs out of Africa, urban ecoterrorism with an attack on SUVs, the Catholic Church, an orthopedic surgeon turned butcher and a footrace that saved a dying town.

Topping the 2006 list is Texas Monthly, a finalist with 16 nominations, the most in the recent history of this competition. Los Angeles magazine received 13 nominations. Atlanta magazine is a finalist in five categories, Chicago and Philadelphia magazines in four. Boston and Indianapolis Monthly each captured three nominations.

This year’s competition also saw a number of smaller circulation titles as finalists: Berkshire Living (with two), Memphis, Buffalo Spree, HOUR Detroit and others. Two first-time nominees include Evansville Living and Gulfshore Life.

The competition is open to the 92 members of CRMA and other city and regional magazines throughout North America that qualify.
