Sent on behalf of Jack Davis and Steve Carver:

It is with great pleasure today that we announce the appointment of Clifford Teutsch to be Editor and Vice President of The Hartford Courant. We are thrilled to have such an innovative veteran journalist and experienced manager lead the distinguished news staff of America’s oldest newspaper.

Cliff is justly respected both inside our company and throughout the industry. He has played a central role in the great journalism and public service that have characterized The Courant in recent years – from investigative reporting to new sections and features to prize-winning photography and graphics.

Cliff joined The Courant in 1980 as a reporter. He later covered state government, was an investigative reporter, took leave to complete a Knight Journalism Fellowship at Stanford University, and returned as politics editor in 1987. He was named assistant managing editor/nights in 1991 and since December 1994, has held the critical role of managing editor for the newsroom.

A catalyst for new ideas, Cliff takes pride in his profession and places a high value on craftsmanship, integrity and community leadership. He devotes a great deal of energy to communicating effectively, to making decisions collaboratively, and to seeking and recognizing exceptional talent. Cliff is a leader who has an in-depth understanding of the challenges and opportunities that face our industry.

Please join us in congratulating Cliff.

Jack and Steve
