Title: SacBee begins distributing web traffic reports
Posted By: Jim Romenesko

Memo sent to Sacramento Bee staffers

Sent: Tuesday, January 16, 2007 3:50 PM
To: SACB Newsroom Staff
Subject: FROM [executive editor] RICK [Rodriguez] - Daily Reports

Colleagues:

Starting today, we are sending out daily reports on stories that are generating the most traffic on our websites, sacbee and sacticket. We are doing this to give you an idea of the types of stories that attract online readers most. We will not allow web traffic statistics to dictate story play in the newspaper. However, the statistics are one of many considerations the online editors use in determining placement of stories on the web. It is also helpful for us as a newsroom to be conscious of the content that our web readers find most interesting.

I can't emphasize enough how important it is for all of us to understand and embrace the delivery of news online. This is part of everyone's job now and sharing the story readership online is just one small step that I hope will help underscore our online responsibilities.

Thanks,
Rick
