THOMAS EDSALL JOINS THE HUFFINGTON POST AS POLITICAL EDITOR

New York, NY – May 2, 2007 – The Huffington Post today announced that Thomas Edsall, who covered national politics at The Washington Post for 25 years, will join the company as political editor. Mr. Edsall will oversee the site's 2008 election and political coverage, as well as write for The Huffington Post.

"Tom Edsall is an extraordinary reporter and one of the most expert journalists in Washington, and we are so pleased he is joining The Huffington Post,” said Arianna Huffington, editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post. "As we expand our coverage of national politics and the upcoming elections, Tom will bring his reporting experience, political acumen and vision to our daily political coverage.”

Edsall is a professor at the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism, where he holds the Joseph Pulitzer II and Edith Pulitzer Moore Chair. He has been a correspondent for The New Republic and a contributing editor at National Journal. In 2006, in addition to teaching at Columbia, he was a guest op-ed columnist for The New York Times. Edsall has written frequently for such magazines as The Atlantic, The New York Review of Books, Harper’s, The American Prospect, The Nation and The Washington Monthly.

Edsall is the author of Building Red America: the New Conservative Coalition and the Drive for Permanent Power. A previous book, Chain Reaction: the Impact of Race, Rights, and Taxes, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Nonfiction in 1992. In 1984, he wrote The New Politics on Inequality. He was co-editor of The Reagan Legacy and published a collection of his reporting, Power and Money: Writing About Politics.
