Orange County Register press release
New publisher announced for The Orange County Register
Santa Ana, Calif. – June 6, 2007 -- The Orange County Register will have a new publisher next month. Marti Buscaglia, publisher of the Duluth (MN) News Tribune, will become publisher of the Register on July 9, said N. Christian Anderson III, current publisher of the Register and president and chief executive officer of Freedom Orange County Information, Inc., parent of the Register.
"Marti brings exceptional leadership that will provide distinct focus to the Register," Anderson said. "Splitting my duties will enable more day-to-day focus on the Register and more attention to the overall growth of Freedom Orange County Information. We are vigorously pursuing our strategy of multiple information products both in print and online while building the Register's reach for advertisers."
Buscaglia, 54, has been publisher in Duluth for five years. Prior to that, she held senior executive roles with newspaper publishers Tribune, Knight Ridder, Gannett and Times-Mirror. She also ran her own advertising agency in Orange County before entering the newspaper business.
"I grew up in Orange County and spent more than 15 years competing in this market," Buscaglia said. "I know the Register as an outstanding news and information product, with formidable influence in the communities it serves. I'm thrilled to be joining Freedom Orange County Information at this important time in the evolution of the newspaper industry."
Buscaglia is known as an innovator and change agent, Anderson noted. She currently serves as president of the International Newspaper Marketing Association.
In the Publisher role, Buscaglia will be responsible for sales, marketing, distribution, circulation, production operations, opinion/commentary and the company's Spanish language newspaper, Excelsior. She will report to Anderson.
