DOUGLAS FRANTZ NAMED SENIOR WRITER AT CONDE NAST PORTFOLIO

Douglas Frantz has been named a Senior Writer at Conde Nast Portfolio, it was announced today by Joanne Lipman, Editor-in-Chief of the magazine. His appointment is effective immediately.

Mr. Frantz joins Conde Nast Portfolio from The Los Angeles Times where he was most recently a managing editor. He first joined The Los Angeles Times in 1987 as a business reporter and later served as an investigative reporter in the paper’s Washington bureau. From 1994 to 2003 Frantz worked at The New York Times as a business reporter, an investigative reporter, foreign correspondent, and investigations editor. He returned to The Los Angeles Times as a foreign correspondent in 2003 and was appointed managing editor in 2005.

Mr. Franz began his career at The Albuquerque Tribune where he was city editor from 1975 to 1978. He then joined The Chicago Tribune as an investigative reporter in Chicago and Washington.

Mr. Frantz is a two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist, a two-time winner of the Worth Bingham Prize for investigative reporting, and a recipient of the Goldsmith Prize for Investigative Reporting. His ninth book, The Nuclear Jihadist, will be published in December. Written with his wife, Catherine Collins, the book is an account of how A. Q. Khan, the Pakistani scientist, spread nuclear weapons technology to Pakistan, Libya, North Korea, and Iran, and how the United States government failed to stop him.

Mr. Frantz holds a BA from DePaw University and an MA in Journalism from Columbia University. He lives in Washington DC with his wife.
