DAN GOLDEN NAMED SENIOR EDITOR
AT CONDE NAST PORTFOLIO

Dan Golden has been named a Senior Editor at Conde Nast Portfolio, it was announced today by Joanne Lipman, Editor-in-Chief of the magazine. His appointment is effective in October. In addition, Mr. Golden will contribute pieces to the magazine.

Mr. Golden joins Conde Nast Portfolio from The Wall Street Journal where he was deputy chief of The Journal's Boston bureau. During his time at the paper, Mr. Golden won the Pulitzer Prize for beat reporting in 2004 for a series of front-page articles exposing the large college admissions advantage enjoyed by affluent white students. His articles were credited with influencing a deeply divided U.S. Supreme Court to preserve affirmative action in college admissions in a historic 2003 decision, and were cited in editorials, opinion columns, and follow-up articles in numerous publications. His subsequent book on the topic, "The Price of Admission: How America's Ruling Class Buys Its Way into Elite Colleges--and Who Gets Left Outside the Gates" was named one of the best non-fiction books of 2006 by The Washington Post. Prior to The Wall Street Journal, Mr. Golden spent seventeen years at The Boston Globe, including five years as a staff writer on its Sunday magazine. He also was a member of The Globe's investigative Spotlight team. Mr. Golden began his career as a reporter for the Springfield Mass. Daily News.

Mr. Golden has received numerous other journalistic honors, including two George S. Polk awards and six Education Writers Association first-place awards--most recently in 2006 for a series of articles he wrote for The Wall Street Journal about religious intrusions on academic freedom. In 1998-99, Mr. Golden was a Knight fellow at Stanford.

Mr. Golden graduated magna cum laude with a BA from Harvard. He lives in Belmont, Mass. with his wife and their son.
