From FORREST BROWN: I think I might be able to help out MediaNews President Joseph Lodovic.

He asks: "Why does every newspaper need copy editors? In this day and age, I think copy-editing can be done centrally for several newspapers."

Here's the answer, and it will take only eight seconds to read and eight hours to know: Go to one of your newspapers any Friday and work just one copy desk shift. Now imagine trying to do what you just did from another newspaper. You'll never have to ask that question again. [Permalink]
