Dear MA Class,

I am attaching my extremely late evaluations of the first semester
projects. Sorry it took so long. I am also attaching the "journalistic
method" piece I mentioned several times in class. I would be grateful
for any comments or emendations.

Instead of sending the class project evaluations, Columbia journalism school dean Nicholas Lemann e-mailed his self-evaluation to his students. He then sent this e-mail to them:

Subject: [maclass] Freudian slip?
To: MA class

Well, folks, instead of sending you my evaluation of your projects, I
sent you a self-evaluation that I wrote at the request of the provost,
to help him decide whether he's going to reappoint me to a second five
year term. Make of that mistake what you will -- but I'm now attaching
what I had meant to send you first time around./CONTINUED
