Title: NYT accuses site of stealing its stories
Posted By: Jim Romenesko

From PATRICIA KRANZ, deputy Sunday business editor, New York Times: We have discovered a website called livemint.com, which is -- according to the website -- a "partner" of The Wall Street Journal, that has lifted stories from the Sunday Business section of the New York Times without permission or attribution, including this recent one. The story originally appeared in the NYT on Sunday, March 2:

Upon further examination, it appears that the site has published numerous other stories from the New York Times and the International Herald Tribune, without permission or attribution. This would seem to be a flagrant case of mass copyright infringement. Furthermore, because of the prominent Wall Street Journal logo at the top of each page, the false impression is that these articles originated from the Wall Street Journal.

In the "about HT Media" section at the bottom of the livemint.com site, it states that its flagship newspaper is the Hindustan Times. It also states that it has launched a national business newspaper, Mint, with an exclusive agreement with Wall Street Journal to publish Journal branded news and information in India. The logo at the top of the site says livemint.com/The Wall Street Journal. [Permalink]
