Title: Little departs as WP Co. web division chief
Posted By: Jim Romenesko

Washington Post publisher Katharine Weymouth's memo to staff

After 11 years at WPNI, first as general counsel, then COO and, for the past four years, as CEO and publisher, Caroline Little has decided to step down. She has led our web efforts to unparalleled success: average page views on washingtonpost.com have grown 44% to nearly 270 million in the first quarter this year, and we now boast an average of 10 million unique users every month. Also on Caroline's watch, WPNI's revenues grew exponentially, up 143%. In addition to her role with washingtonpost.com, Caroline oversaw the revamping of Newsweek.com, the growth of Slate to a record-breaking 78.6 million page views in March of this year, the launch of Sprig.com and the launch of our latest venture, TheRoot.com. Caroline was able to accomplish all this through her extraordinary leadership skills, her vision and with the assistance of the stellar team she built at WPNI. As Don said in his remarks today, "Caroline has been a wonderful and patient manager and has demonstrated extraordinary leadership skills".

WPNI is a vital part of our future and will remain a separate subsidiary of The Washington Post Company. We will conduct a search for a new CEO of WPNI. In the meantime, Jennifer Moyer will remain as COO and oversee all daily operations. She and Steve Stup, vice president of sales, will report to Chris Ma at corporate.

I am taking this opportunity to move washingtonpost.com and The Washington Post closer to a true Washington Post Media organization – rather than a newspaper company and an Internet company. To that end, Jim Brady, executive editor of washingtonpost.com and Rob Curley, vice president of products, will report to me. Goli Sheikholeslami, vice president of classifieds and local products, will report to Steve Hills, president and general manager of Washington Post Media.

Please join me in thanking Caroline for her amazing work at WPNI. In the weeks to come, Don has asked her to explore new Internet-related ventures for the Company.
