Philadelphia Daily News assistant managing editor Warren named Philly.com editor

Folks,

Today, Wendy Warren has been named the first ever vice president and editor of Philly.com.

She is absolutely perfect for this new and important role at Philly.com. We know that, because in her eight years at the Daily News she has distinguished herself in all that she has tackled.

Her online initiatives, in particular, demonstrated her enviable ability to work with a myriad of personalities and institutions to both produce and maintain must-read work.

Collaborating with two other institutional partners, she almost single-handedly gave birth to and nurtured the Next Mayor web site, and, most recently, served as a key editor working with both newsrooms and Philly.com to launch the very successful political page.

Along the way, she has been key in helping us chart our path, both online and in print, in the most challenging of times for our industry. She has been a strong and steady hand in just about everything she has touched, from running our Rethinking Philadelphia efforts to reshaping our City Desk operation. Her leadership, wisdom and passion for this place will be sorely missed.

But here are the silver linings: Wendy very much wants to make this next and important step, and the great thing for us is that we will have a friend and alumna in an essential role.

I very much believe that one important sign of unqualified success is the ability to leave an institution in better shape than you found it. No doubt, Wendy has.

With Wendy’s departure in a couple of weeks, there will, of course, be some restructuring of our leadership – and some opportunities. If you have any thoughts on any of that, please holler.

Mike
