Title: Still waiting for the trophy and check
Posted By: Jim Romenesko

From TRACEY O'SHAUGHNESSY: I'm a reporter in Waterbury, CT and last year, as you reported in your column, I won a Missouri Lifestyle Award for short feature. It was my first win from Missouri.

The only way I found out about the win was your column, which directed me to their website, and, yes, indeed, there was my name and story. If you recall, the win comes with a trophy and a $1,000 check. The awards were announced in August. It's nearly February and I have received nothing. Not a letter. Not a phone call. Not a check. Not a trophy.

About 4 months ago, I got an email from a student asking me for my SSN so they could process the check. Again, nothing arrived. I contacted the school twice and one prof responded that he was just "behind in his paperwork" and another said she'd "look into it."

I'm thrilled to have won but I'm a little perplexed. I hate to have to hound them for the trophy and the check and I'm beginning to wonder whether anyone who received the award actually received anything from it. Have you heard of such an oversight? Should I keep asking? I feel really churlish doing so. [Permalink]
