How microgrants could help journalists be more innovative

In this week’s career chat, we talked with Christina Xu, a 2011 Knight News Challenge winner and chancellor of the Institute on Higher Awesome Studies, a nonprofit that promotes microgranting. Knight gave her $244,000 to experiment with new ways to fund local news in three cities.

Xu talked about where the microgranting-for-news idea came from, what she’s learned from it and how her work in this area can help other journalists’ careers.
