Chat replay: What skills do you need to work as a ‘portfolio careerist?’

This week’s career chat looked at the role and responsibilities of a “portfolio careerist.”

In journalism and many other fields, we are seeing the emergence of portfolio careers, those in which someone does not work for one employer at a time, but for several people or companies at once, cobbling together a living with a schedule that can be both challenging and liberating.

During the chat, our guest Katherine Lewis talked about her experiences as a portfolio careerist. Harvard-educated and formerly a national correspondent, she now freelances, writes for About.com and is the founder of CurrentMom.com.

You can revisit this page at any time to replay the chat.

Thank you again to Poynter and Joe Grimm for having me on today’s chat. I wanted to clarify that when I said newspapers pay poorly, of course I wasn’t including any of my own newspaper clients. They are all gems.
