Time to offer iPad subscriptions by June

Bloomberg
Time Inc. plans to offer subscription options for its iPad magazine editions within the next three months, according to Greg Bensinger at Bloomberg.

” ‘It’ll probably be June before we’re able to get it up and running for subscriptions,’ Ann S. Moore, chairman and chief executive officer of the Time Warner Inc. division, said in an interview yesterday in New York. ‘The iPad doesn’t allow me to do that right now; it’s only a newsstand.’ “

Several publishers, including Time, The Wall Street Journal and Popular Science have come under criticism from consumers and analysts for somewhat confusing and potentially unrealistic pricing of the iPad versions of their publications. Moore’s comments to Bloomberg may indicate that to some extent pricing strategies are affected by the logistics and technology of the iTunes store as well as the short period of time developers had to build and roll out their apps in advance of the iPad launch last week.
