Washington Post lead digital executive Goli Sheikholeslami is leaving the organizations after eight years there in print and digital roles. Sheikholeslami was formerly the General Manager of WashingtonPost.com and was named General Manager of Digital, and Vice President of Digital Product Development in January, following the merger of the Post’s print and digital operations.
Among her duties, Sheikholeslami headed up the paper’s mobile strategy and she spoke with Mobile Media in March on the day of their iPhone app launch, when she said she thought 2010 was finally going to be “the year of mobile.”
The Post has faced some criticism for being late to the mobile arena, redesigning its mobile Web site in 2009 and not launching an iPhone app until this year. Washington Post Executive Editor Marcus Brauchli told the German newsweekly Der Spiegel last week that the Post had been slow out of the gates to develop an iPad app but said they hoped to build “something that will be distinct and take advantage of the qualities” of Apple’s digital tablet.
The Post has seen a number of high profile digital departures in the past two years as the organization prepared to integrate print and online operations. Caroline Little, CEO of Washington Post-Newsweek Interactive, left in April 2008, followed by digital innovator Rob Curley in May and Jim Brady, executive editor of WashingtonPost.com, in December.
