Laura Oliver reports that publishers in the United Kingdom expect mobile devices to play a major role in their revenue strategy in 2011. According to a survey by the Association of Online Publishers, 40 percent of surveyed publishers had paid content apps in 2010, up from 12 percent in 2009.
However, publishers appear to value their websites for revenue potential as well. Oliver writes:
“When asked about what platforms offered the best opportunities for making money, 38 percent of respondents pointed to their website as the main place for paid content; 19 percent said iPads and other tablets; while 18 percent said other mobile apps.”
