Aspen Institute communications director Jim Spiegelman says in an e-mail: “Ron Schiller has informed us that, in light of the controversy surrounding his recent statements, he does not feel that it’s in the best interests of the Aspen Institute for him to come work here.”

Wwwwait. Dick Cheney, Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Armitage are all now considered left wing? This is what I get for missing staff meetings.

Schiller decided to disinvite himself? Yeah, right.

What on Earth are you talking about? I was responding to the article a commenter linked. His other comments about the Aspen Institute are kind of stupid. Their board includes a bunch of conservatives, not the least of which is one of the Koch brothers who is the recipient of abundant hate from leftists merely for donating money to causes he believes in and they don’t.

Schiller is correct. He is now toxic, and any organization who employs him will be tainted. The sad thing is that no one realizes, (or will admit) that his words and actions are quite mainstream and unremarkable for the left. Schiller’s only break from liberal orthodoxy is that he was outed in public.

Great article. Is there anything more laughable than a group of billionaire leftists discussing their desire to unionize WalMart and the shadowy cockroach George Soros being the voice of reason in that regard? The billionaire who funds groups who stalk a pair of billionaires named Koch to assert that billionaires giving money to political causes they believe in subverts democracy! It’s almost comical how sick and shamelessly hypocritical that is.

I can’t site any example of them calling anyone names. But the fact that an organization that states in their mission they “foster values-based leadership, encouraging individuals to reflect on the ideals and ideas that define a good society, and to provide a neutral and balanced venue for discussing and acting on critical issues” is holding secret meetings in order to influence the outcome of Presidential elections (even if unsuccessfully) I find troubling.

Ok, perhaps you can point to some of this “hatefulness” on the part of the Aspen Institute. You can even stay anonymous if you want.

I’d be especially interested if the Aspen Institute ever called anyone a Nazi, but really, any evidence of “hatefulness” is fine — annnnd….. go!

I agree with LBL. Seems the video would have been quite a positive addition to his resume for the Aspen Institute.
