Blogger: Long Island Press lifted details from my petite lap giraffe story

“Why rip off my work without providing a link?” asks Ian Dennis Miller. “Why alter the article to make it appear as if the ‘rip off’ had not taken place? I interpret the actions of Long Island Press to constitute the acknowledgment that it is, in fact, a ‘rip off,’ and simultaneously that they’re totally remorseless about doing it.” (I’ve asked LIP editor Michael Patrick Nelson to respond.)

I know no one involved in this dispute, but the blogger seems to believe he was the first to discover the connection with the ad firm Gray and the DirectTV ads. His blog on this is dated this month. The Gray connection was disclosed last year: http://adweek.blogs.com/adfreak/2010/08/directvs-opulence-ad-is-rich-in-subtelties.html

I discovered the use of a stock image as the basis for a hilarious photoshop on the Petite Lap Giraffe website. When I asked to be attributed as the source for “the stock image thing”, they removed this particular detail from their article.

…but thanks for that link, all the same.
