Philadelphia Inquirer denies Davies was fired for criticizing convention center

Philadelphia Media Network spokesman Mark Block confirms that Paul Davies is out as Philadelphia Inquirer deputy editorial page editor, but denies reports circulating in the newsroom that he was fired because his March 5 column about convention center management cost the paper an advertorial.

We respectfully deny your reported assessment of the reason noted for Paul Davies’ departure from Philadelphia Media Network. We are unable to comment further on the matter in view of our company policy not to discuss personnel matters relative to former employees. Paul’s former colleagues at Philadelphia Media Network wish him the very best of luck in his future endeavors.

I also asked Block and Davies about reports that Davies was offered a position at the Daily News — Bob Warner is moving from the Daily News to the Inquirer — and that Davies turned it down. I have yet to hear back from them.
