Danny Glover tells Romenesko

As the editor of the Capitol Hill Tweet Watch Report, I’m trying something innovative today that I thought might interest you: I’m moderating a “Twitter roundtable” with journalists who have been reporting from courtrooms in real time via Twitter.

I will moderate the online panel via the Twitter handle @JusticeWeb, and people can join the discussion, including asking questions or sharing their own thoughts on the issue, by tracking the hashtag #trialtweets. The roundtable begins at 1 p.m. EST.

Three reporters have agreed to participate: Steven Kraytek of the Austin American-Statesman, Jamie Satterfield of the Knoxville News-Sentinel and Ron Sylvester of the Wichita Eagle. A fourth trial tweeter, Helen Ubinas of the Hartford Courant, may join the discussion if she has time while covering an ongoing trial.

Today’s roundtable is part of my fellowship project for the Center on Media, Crime and Justice at the City University of New York’s John Jay College. The complete project, “Justice 2.0: Social Order in the Courts,” will be published at www.tweetwatchreport.com in the next few days. It will include a story about the impact of courtroom Twitter coverage.

Interesting topic. I’ve covered several hearings and trials live via my blog and found it very fulfilling. I know Jamie Satterfield from her coverage of the Christian/Newsom murder trials in Knoxville last year.
