The quartet of CBS’ Mark Knoller and Bill Plante, ABC’s Ann Compton and American Urban Radio’s April Ryan have replaced Helen Thomas as the dean of the White House press corps, Patrick Gavin writes.

“I rely more on Mark Knoller for presidential facts than LexisNexis and Google COMBINED,” said The Washington Times’s Emily Miller…

“Ann Compton is quite simply a legend,” said her ABC News colleague Karen Travers…

“April has a unique style, and as such, she’s a unique force in the White House,” said The Hill’s Sam Youngman…

“When you’ve been covering politics as long as Bill has, you don’t run across many surprises,” said Plante’s colleague Bob Schieffer. “Whatever happens, Bill has seen some version of it. And that’s why he is so valuable.

David Gregory, Norah O’Donnell and Bret Baier appear elsewhere on the list of 50, which also includes four bloggers and 10 “top tweeters.”
