Journal Sentinel journalists ‘sort of stunned’ by editorial board interview with Herman Cain

The five-minute video clip of Herman Cain’s interview with the Journal Sentinel’s editorial board shows Cain struggling to say whether he agreed with President Obama’s handling of the uprising in Libya. He pauses, starts to say that he disagreed with Obama, then stops himself and says, “No, that’s a different one,” shifts in his chair and asks someone to clarify the question. Journal Sentinel Editor Marty Kaiser tells CNN that some of the journalists in the room have been through many such interviews, ”and afterwards we were really sort of stunned.” According to The New Republic, Craig Gilbert, the paper’s Washington correspondent, “realized right away that news was being made.” But the story didn’t blow up immediately because the newspaper waited a couple of hours before posting the video. || Related: Cain gets his news from The Wall Street Journal, USA Today (The Washington Post)
