ESPN responds to three separate incidents in which NBA player Jeremy Lin was referred to in racist ways:

We have engaged in a thorough review of all three and have taken the following action:

  • The ESPN employee responsible for our Mobile headline has been dismissed.
  • The ESPNEWS anchor has been suspended for 30 days.
  • The radio commentator is not an ESPN employee.

    and the New York Times sports section ran a banner headline on Monday after the Sunday game that read “Lin Tops Himself” and that is British slang for kill yourself or kill someone. Oi.

    You know, Mr Federico, the ESPN headline writer fired for poor headline judgment claims he has used that phrase in headlines 100 times in past few years and never once gave it a thought that it was slurry, in those other contexts and even in this context, didn’t think at all it was talking about ch*nks. At the same time, Jeremy Lin is also a kind of racist himself, in terms of religious beliefs, in that he pushes a God agenda that ”excludes” Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, Moslems and others from his exclusive club called Jesus Heaven Country Club. Think about it: Lin pushes a spiritual belief that says only one kind of believer will be saved, his kind of believer. That is also racism, but we call it bigotry now. yes or no? So he also needs to straighten up his act. No?
