Melanie Sill named new executive editor at KPCC

KPCC
Melanie Sill will be executive editor at KPCC. She was previously the editor of The Sacramento Bee and executive editor at The News & Observer in Raleigh, N.C. KPCC is fast becoming a home for newspaper refugees: Russ Stanton, the former editor of the Los Angeles Times, recently became the station’s vice president for contentStephanie O’Neill, a health reporter, used to work for the L.A. Times as well.

Sill, a member of Poynter’s National Advisory Board, wrote a paper for the Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism last year called “The Case for Open Journalism Now.” In a related post on Poynter.org, she wrote:

It’s time to open up journalism’s processes, not just its outcomes, to more robust and effective interaction with sources, contributors and consumers. A discipline based on bringing information to light needs to be more engaged with the expanding practices and culture of information exchange in the communication era. This is key to improving journalism’s service and expanding its value and effectiveness as a public good.
