Poll: College women get election news from the paper, though they’d rather not

Americans surveyed by Pew say cable news is their top source of election information.

About 730 college women, mostly 20-year-olds, who use the HerCampus website say they plan on voting this November (about 67 percent of them for President Obama). The most important issue facing them, they say, is student loan debt. The most important issue facing the country, they say, is the national debt followed by unemployment. Forty-one percent of those polled say they are more annoyed by friends who post political status updates than they are by friends who post “gushy relationship” updates. But here’s what’s most interesting: Only 7 percent say they prefer to get election news from the newspaper yet 47 percent say that’s how they actually get their election news. The charts follow.
