Daphne Carr raised $17,000 to restart the Best Music Writing series at the beginning of 2012. So where’s the book, and where’s Carr?
People Carr asked to help with the project can’t reach her, H. Drew Blackburn reports, and Carr “seems to have been working closely with the Occupy Movement.”
“I think I pledged $25,” New York Magazine contributing editor Joe Hagan said. He appeared in the 2011 edition of Best Music Writing for this piece. “So, I’m not among the most highly aggrieved if it all fell through and she ran off to Honduras.” However, one dedicated backer donated $1,000 to the cause and two dropped $500 or more.
Carr emailed Blackburn last week to say “This is Daphne Carr. I have no comment.”

Disclosures: I am a former music journalist and have edited pieces that landed in previous editions of Best Music Writing, and its former publisher published my 2006 book. I’ve met Carr and we have friends in common.
