Roseman “slipped out the door to call 911 on his cell phone,” Alex Frick reports. The suspect left the building and began shooting at Roseman, who was in his car. “Police said one of the shots went through the rear passenger door of Roseman’s vehicle and possibly lodged in a bundle of newspapers inside the car,” Frick writes.

Neither Roseman nor the clerk was injured. Roseman tried to follow the suspect but was unsuccessful. “Luckily he’s not a good shot, because he fired at me four times and only one of them hit my car,” Roseman told Frick.
Police “seized the bundle of newspapers in Roseman’s car in hopes of retrieving the bullet, a news release from the Newton Police Department said. They also collected wad of chewing gum found at the scene.” The thicker Sunday papers may have saved Roseman’s life, Steve Ohnesorge reports on WBTV: “Sunday newspapers — they’re bigger and thicker than most days. A bullet couldn’t go through a stack of those.”
