AP national political editor moves to BP

Associated Press national political editor Liz Sidoti is leaving the wire service for BP to serve as the energy company’s head of communications in the U.S., Jim Romenesko reports.

Romensko cited a memo from AP’s Washington Bureau Chief Sally Buzbee to the D.C. editorial staff:

Liz has told us she’s interested in taking on a new challenge and developing business skills after 15 years as a reporter and editor with the AP.

Because her new employer is someone AP covers, she will no longer be involved in any reporting, editing or news management for AP, effective immediately.

Sidoti was welcomed to BP on Twitter by Geoff Morrell, senior vice president of U.S. communications and external affairs:

We have made it easy to comment on posts, however we require civility and encourage full names to that end (first initial, last name is OK). Please read our guidelines here before commenting.

When you do well-balanced reporting, seldom does one garner the opportunity to become employed by an entity they’ve previously covered. Albeit one of the few opportunities to escape the so-called “news” grind.
