We thought we’d check with a Canadian on the context of this one, and asked Craig Silverman — is gravy like pork in political jargon?

“That’s how it’s being used by Rob Ford,” he replied via e-mail. “He campaigned on a promise to ‘stop the gravy train’ at Toronto city hall and cut spending, perks etc.”

Thanks, Silverman. Now, if you have any recommendations on who we should go to the next time Ford busts out the Creole, we’re ready.
