Houston taxpayers pay for Esquire restaurant critic’s airfare

The taxpayer-funded Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau says it paid the airfare of Esquire food writer John Mariani, while Hotel Icon comped his room, and the four restaurants he recently visited paid for his meals. (Second column item.) Maybe a Chicago chef’s story about Mariani isn’t so “preposterous” after all.
