PEJ: Troubled US economy a bigger story in older media

The economy has been a big story in print media, the network evening newscasts and traditional news radio, but a noticeably smaller one in the newer media — the more opinion-oriented platforms of cable TV and talk radio. A Project for Excellence in Journalism study finds that press coverage of the economy has lagged behind economic events, sometimes by months. For example, media attention to a possible recession began to spike just as the economy was strengthening.
