France says 30,000 have signed up for “My Free Newspaper” project

Young readers (18 to 24) in France are being offered a free, yearlong subscription to a newspaper of their choice. Costs of the project are being shared by the newspapers and the government. Former Le Figaro media editor Emmanuel Schwartzenberg opposes the giveaway. “This just reinforces the belief that newspapers should be free, which is a very bad idea.”
