The Guardian corrects: Sir Patrick Stewart isn’t gay

A Guardian contributor mistakenly cited Sir Patrick Stewart as being gay, resulting in this correction:

This article was amended on 17 February 2014. The third paragraph originally said ‘Some gay people, such as Sir Patrick Stewart, think Page’s coming out speech is newsworthy’. This should have read ‘Some people, such as Sir Patrick Stewart, think Page’s coming out speech is newsworthy’.

Stewart: Is straight. (AP Photo/Rick Maiman)

Stewart later responded:

We have made it easy to comment on posts, however we require civility and encourage full names to that end (first initial, last name is OK). Please read our guidelines here before commenting.

You know they’re only making a fuss about this because Sir Patrick Stewart’s best friend, Sir Ian McKellen, is an openly gay man. Sir Ian even officiated Patrick’s recent wedding to the lovely female singer Sunny Osnell.

Straight people and gay people can be friends without it being sexual, just like straight women and men can be friends without it being sexual. So embarrassed for The Guardian.

The whole emphasis on the topic of gays is that it shouldn’t matter so why does the Guardian get so exercised about each and every revelation? The Times and the Telegraph don’t so what up with the Guardian? Desperate or what?

It’s the chicken wings that made him gay.
