During a News Corp. earnings call on Tuesday, Rupert Murdoch said that his HarperCollins publishing house would be renegotiating its deal with Amazon following on the heels of Macmillan’s fight with the online bookseller last week. Murdoch indicated publishers are interested in more flexible pricing in the Amazon store, similar to the deal apparently being offered by Apple iBooks on the new iPad. “We don’t like the Amazon model of selling everything at $9.99 … We think it really devalues books and it hurts all the retailers of the hard cover books. We like [e-books] very much … but we want some room to maneuver,” Murdoch said.
