Murdoch: Kindle, iPad powered by content, not batteries

Calling digital tablets like the Kindle and iPad “empty vessels” Rupert Murdoch argued for the primacy and value of content this week, saying the devices would be “unloved and unsold” if they remained unfilled by media companies. “Content is not just king, it is the emperor of all things digital,” said the Murdoch. “We’re on the cusp of a digital revolution from which our shareholders will profit handsomely.” The News. Corp. CEO also said “the company was in ‘advanced discussions’ with handheld device manufacturers about a ­subscription model allowing consumers to access media content ‘whenever and wherever they want it.’ “
