Business journalism survey shows optimism not found in anecdotal reports

Tim McGuire writes after reading the survey results: “Either the Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism found every optimistic journalist haunting newsrooms these days or the anecdotal reports of despair and teeth-gnashing in the nation’s newsrooms have been over-wrought.”
Some of the findings:
* Six out of 10 business journalists are doing more or about the same level of investigative journalism.
* Nine out of 10 have learned new skills.
* Three-fourths say their workload has increased and they use social media.
* About half blog, file first for the Web and cover more beats.
