The Daily editor to staff: ‘Get out there and start finding more compelling stories’

New York
The Daily editor-in-chief Jesse Angelo‘s memo to staff says he doesn’t want them “just scraping the web and the wires, but getting out on the ground and reporting. … Get in front of a story and make it ours – force the rest of the media to follow us. …We’ve assembled a crack news team, so let’s show the world what we can do.”

Angelo offers no original thoughts, just the obvious and banalities: “Find me a school district where the battle over reform is being fought and tell the human tales. Find a town that is going to be unincorporated because it’s broke. . . . Find me the oldest dog in America, or the richest man in South Dakota.”

I feel embarrassed for ole Rupe.

I hope Angelo can make it happen. Because so far, The Daily’s content has been … well, crap. I love the format, love the production quality, just find the content itself to be weak as dishwater.
