New York – March 1, 2011 – Sporting News and AOL today launched Sporting News on AOL, the flagship sports destination for AOL in the U.S. Sporting News on AOL launches with design and feature enhancements and is the new home to award-winning AOL FanHouse columnists Lisa Olson, Greg Couch, David Whitley and David Steele, who will also be periodically featured in Sporting News Magazine. The new site is accessible at aol.sportingnews.com and directly from the ‘Sports’ link on the AOL.com homepage.
The addition of four FanHouse columnists brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to Sporting News’ already outstanding staff of writers.
* Lisa Olson is an award-winning columnist previously at the New York Daily News, Sydney Morning Herald and the Sydney Daily Telegraph. She is a member of the Baseball Writers Association of America and is a Hall of Fame voter.
* Greg Couch previously was at the Chicago Sun-Times, Akron Beacon-Journal and Wichita Eagle. He received the 2007 and 2008 Lisagor Award as Best Sports Columnist in Chicago and surrounding areas, was featured twice in the Best American Sports Writing and is an APSE award winner.
* David Whitley spent 10 years at the Orlando Sentinel covering every major event, including numerous Super Bowls, Olympic Games, golf majors and BCS championships. He’s also worked at the Tampa Tribune, San Antonio Light and Tallahassee Democrat.
* David Steele was a sports columnist from 1999-2009 for the Baltimore Sun and San Francisco Chronicle. He also covered the NBA and NFL at eight newspapers for more than two decades and won numerous journalism awards.
Sporting News on AOL features updated design and functionality, including the return of scoreboards to the homepage and section fronts, integration of a FanHouse section across the site and enhanced social media capabilities. In addition, Facebook’s commenting platform has been integrated into all article pages, giving fans the ability to voice their opinions and interact with their Facebook friends directly on SportingNews.com.
