Ottawa Citizen front page reports that Titanic sank in 2012

Note the date in the photo caption of this Ottawa Citizen front page image from April 7:

Here’s the resulting correction that ran Sunday:

RMS Titanic struck an iceberg and sank in the Atlantic Ocean in 1912. An incorrect date appeared in Saturday’s Citizen.

    The error happens twice in the same caption.  This is also a major historical event which has been receiving lots of press in Canada for the anniversary.

    You won’t be a copy editor for long if this is the quality of your work.

    Typos and errors due to speed/lack of staff happen. It’s easy to snicker at this, but if you’re a copy editor for long enough, something like this will happen to you.
