Newspapers say their stories about same-sex marriage disappear from Facebook

The (Pottstown, Pa.) Mercury says its stories about same-sex marriage keep disappearing from its Facebook page. Other newspapers, including the Los Angeles Daily News and other Digital First Media-affiliated papers in the Philadelphia region, reported similar problems, Frank Otto writes. Mercury Online Editor Eileen Faust made a video of her posts disappearing:

The disappearances “didn’t fall on one side of the issue or the other,” Otto writes.

Faust said that in addition to the initial stories and videos about the same-sex couple being issued a license, a story on Gov. Tom Corbett speaking out against [a Pennsylvania county official who said he would start issuing same-sex licenses] also disappeared at least once.

“This content was clearly not in violation of our terms, reinforced by the fact that the page administrators did not receive a notification,” Facebook’s Alison Schumer told The Mercury.
