TV station owner gives $500 to every employee

“A day at the office doesn’t get any better than that!” says KOTV-TV content director Ed Trauschke, who posted a photo on Facebook of the five Benjamins plus a thank-you note he said Oklahoma-based Griffin Communications had decided to give to each employee. “Why? Because they own two of the top rated CBS stations in the country and business is very good,” Trauschke writes.

Griffin Communications also owns KQCW in Tulsa and KWTV in Oklahoma City. KWTV is home of superstar meteorologist Gary England, subject of an August feature in the New York Times Magazine.

In May England talked with Poynter’s Al Tompkins about how he reports on storms:

England says when he is on the air he tries not to use “scary adjectives.” The viewer can look out their windows and see there is a big storm out there. “I don’t have to tell them it is scary,” he said.

That is cool, my company does not give random bonuses, for just because ;(

I work close to Kia Motors in GA, I know several people who work there, they say that they randomly announce in their morning start-up meetings that everyone is getting a $1,000 or $2,000 bonus in their paycheck, just because the numbers are good.

One of friends there got 3 or 4 of these bonuses so far this year.

That would be really nice, I would rather have a just because bonus that a set bonus that you know is coming, when you know its coming you make plans to spend the money before you ever get it, if its random you just get your check and say, well dang what they heck am I going to spend this on.

    Good article though.
