Yemen deports American journalist

Today’s MediaWireWorld roundup of journalism news from outside the U.S. Send tips to Kristen Hare:

Freelance journalist Adam Baron was deported from Yemen, Michael Calderone reported in Huffington Post Thursday.

Baron regularly writes for the McClatchy newspaper chain and the Christian Science Monitor.

James Asher, the Washington bureau chief for McClatchy, confirmed to HuffPost that he has been deported and that Baron “believes the deportation is about his journalism.”

Baron tweeted Thursday evening from Cairo.

Baron, who has been in Yemen since 2011, was one of just a few journalists covering Yemen from inside the country, Calderone reported.
