Diseño, Tipografía y Color para Diarios en Español (G406)
Usando ejercicios practicos, los participantes han de aprender y aplicar lo mas fundamental del diseño gráfico-enmaquetación de paginas, tipografía y color. El curso hace énfasis en tecnicas para mejorar la identidad visual del contenido. También el curso explora el proceso fotografico y se analizan los diarios de los participantes. El costo de la matrícula incluye cinco noches del hotel designado por nosotros.

Design/Type/Color Fundamentals (G401B)
Through practical exercises, participants will learn and apply the fundamentals of graphic design - grids, typography, and color - to see how they improve navigation, readability, and the visual identity of the news product. You'll increase your understanding of how journalistic principles undergird the best design work. You'll explore photographic storytelling and become more analytical about your own work and that of others. Participants will also reflect on collaboration, ethical decision-making, and diversity as part of being an effective colleague in the newsroom.

Writing Short, Writing Well (W413)
Too often, storytelling has been associated with long narratives. This hands-on seminar will focus on short forms of journalism and the skills needed to write them well. You'll read and analyze outstanding examples of short journalism from newspapers, magazines, and online media. And under the guidance of some of the best teachers and practitioners in the business, you'll try your hand at new approaches to writing short and writing well.

Information Graphics: Process, Conception & Presentation Techniques (G402)
In this seminar, participants will learn how to create news graphics with impact and credibility. We will discuss what it takes to improve your communication, research, and design skills. You’ll learn how to write headlines, how to write text for your graphics, and how to do your own research. We will start with basics and finish at the advanced level of information graphics. On the technical side, you will use new software such as Flash and 3D applications. In addition to print graphics, this session also touches on online graphics and 3D animation applications for print publications.

Convergence Journalism for College Educators (N301)
Colleges and universities are seeking ways to integrate the principles of convergence as they teach print, online, and broadcast journalism. In this seminar you will explore the best practices in the professional converged journalism world and share your school’s convergence plans and experiences. You will examine the specific skills students need to learn for working and succeeding in converged newsrooms. And you will learn how to bridge the cultural differences among print, broadcast, and online newsrooms. You will also think through the internal challenges that keep convergence efforts at your school from reaching full bloom.Poynter is waiving tuition and pays for the hotel for journalism educators. A limited amount of financial assistance for travel is available and is based on need. Applicants must submit a letter from their dean or department head requesting travel assistance.
